As far as I know, the two don't work together, due to using a complete different structure. They use different names for classes, and I the html structure is different as well. You could try and conver the design itself from Scheme Theme to a genesis child theme, but would take a long time. But as for it working out of the box, I highly doubt it.

it is indeed for a lifetime, but you only get updates for 1 year. And after that 1 year, the download link will disappear from your account. if you have it downloaded, you can use it.
